The faculty and students of the program have sought to engage in initiatives that contribute to improving socio-environmental quality in various sectors of society.

Below are the activities that have contributed to the inclusion of PPEAMB. These can be divided into three groups: a) Support for public administration bodies in improving their processes and services, b) Organization of events to disseminate new technologies, c) Scientific dissemination and d) Research Network.

a) Support for Public Administration Bodies in Improving Their Processes and Services

PPEAMB carries out outreach activities as part of the project "Impact of Socio-Environmental Management in the Collaborative Network of the Ecos Committee of Pernambuco in Institutional Sustainable Logistics Plans." This committee brings together 11 institutions: the Attorney General’s Office – Administration Secretariat in Pernambuco; the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Pernambuco; the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Pernambuco; the Regional Labor Prosecutor’s Office of the 6th Region; the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of the 5th Region; the State Court of Auditors of Pernambuco; the Court of Justice of Pernambuco; the Regional Electoral Court of Pernambuco; the Federal Regional Court of the 5th Region; the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region, with the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) providing technical support for the implementation of environmental management in various institutional sectors.

The committee develops a series of multi-institutional activities aimed at improving sustainability indicators within participating institutions and ensuring compliance with the Sustainable Logistics Plan. Among these activities, short-term courses (20 hours) are offered annually, online, both asynchronous and synchronous, and free of charge. The primary audience includes employees of the Ecos Committee of Pernambuco institutions, but the courses are also open to the general public. Registration is conducted through a dedicated system, and UFRPE is responsible for issuing certificates. Faculty members and students participate annually in organizing these courses, especially in designing course formats and acting as instructors.

b) Organization of Events for Disseminating New Technologies

The EPERSOL - Brazilian Congress on Solid Waste (https://www.epersol.com.br/) is organized collaboratively by PPEAMB faculty and students. Faculty members are part of the Scientific Technical Committee (CTC), which also includes PhDs and doctoral candidates from various Brazilian institutions and Portugal. Students are involved in the event's Organizing Committee and/or the Congress Presidency.

Since its inception in 2013, EPERSOL has aimed to stimulate discussions on changes in solid waste management and the dissemination of emerging and existing technologies and processes that can contribute to proper waste management in business, community, and individual contexts. Each edition of the congress gathers approximately 500 participants from across Brazil.

In all editions, the scientific papers presented are compiled into ebooks, available for free download on the EPERSOL website (https://www.epersol.com.br/e-books.html).

c) Scientific Dissemination

The GEAMA Journal (https://www.journals.ufrpe.br/index.php/geama) is an open-access, electronic scientific journal, published every four months at no cost. It aims to disseminate original contributions in the form of scientific articles, literature reviews, and technical notes that are unpublished, relevant, and innovative in the fields of Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology. Faculty members from PPEAMB are part of the Editorial Board, and Professor André Felipe de Melo Sales Santos serves as the Editor-in-Chief.

As an open-access scientific journal focused on strategic areas such as Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology, GEAMA can generate significant impacts:

1.    The open-access format allows anyone to access articles, reducing financial barriers for students, researchers, and professionals.
2.    The journal provides a space for publishing original research, promoting scientific and technological advancement in Brazil.
3.    It enhances the visibility of Brazilian researchers' work, increasing recognition of their academic contributions.
4.    Academics, environmental engineers, public managers, and entrepreneurs can use the journal as a resource to stay updated on the latest research and industry trends.

d) Research Network

The National Observatory of Water and Carbon Dynamics in the Caatinga Biome (ONDACBC) (https://www.ondacbc.com/) is a research institute that brings together a multidisciplinary team of researchers from both national institutions (Embrapa Semiárido, INSA, IFRN, IFPE, IFPI, IPA, UFAL, UFCG, UFPB, UFPE, UFRN, UFRPE, UFS, UPE, and UEPB) and international institutions (Texas A&M University (TAMU), USA; Duke University, USA; University of Guelph, Canada; Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), France; Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), France; University of Coimbra, Portugal).

The network's goal is to develop accessible technologies that promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life in Brazil's Northeast region. Researchers from participating institutions play a crucial role in disseminating scientific knowledge and developing technological solutions for water security, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability, contributing significantly to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
